Electrical Finishing, Refrigerator Begins

06 March 2011 | Pensacola, FL

A working Sunday. Parallax will be hauled on Wed, March 9th, so we are getting as much done as we can that needs to be done at dockside; once she's hauled we will concentrate on things that need to be done when she's hauled: replacing two of the through-hulls in particular, but also cleaning her bottom and perhaps putting on another coat of antifouling paint.

Derek has completed the largest part of the electrical work -- now he has started the demolition of the forward bunk and its replacement with a built-in refrigeration compartment. The unit came last week: Frigoboat Marine Refrigeration Systems Frigomatic Capri 35 F... the foam to do the insulation has been here for a month or more. The ripping-out has been fun, sometimes annoying, and educational, and planning everything has been keeping him interested.

We installed the propane locker and removed the 100V stove. Our Dickinson Caribbean propane stove/oven is sitting in the living room awaiting the running of the propane line.

I've sewed closed-cell cockpit cushions with Sunbrella Pacific Blue covers and some line bags for the cockpit (with grommets for drainage), and finished the salon cushion backs. I am teetering on the brink of doing the salon cushions themselves, and my last materials arrived this week.

Today is family portrait day (in addition to work), so more later, and also some images.

Vessel Name: Parallax
Vessel Make/Model: 37' Prout Snowgoose (1982)
Hailing Port: Pensacola
Crew: Derek, Heather and Grant
About:
Two astronomers, looking for variable stars and adventure. After cruising the Caribbean aboard S/V Paradox for 18 months in the early 90s, the crew swallowed the anchor and had a child, always planning their next Great Adventure: cruising under sail with Grant, showing him the world. [...]
Extra:
We knew that if we ever got a catamaran, we'd want a name to celebrate her twin-hulledness. Parallax is seeing the same thing from two slightly different points of view, which with our two eyes is what gives humans our depth perception. It's also a good metaphor for one of the benefits of marriage. [...]
