The Baja Bash
Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Summer 2018
As many of you who have followed our blog over the last four years you’ll note that I have not given it any attention since last spring. So let me fill in the blanks.
Offshore Emergency Medicine

Melodie and I just completed our first aid class for cruisers here in Portland Maine. The class focused on what is or is not an emergency. It also covered when to "pull the big red handle" for outside help.
It was particularly useful to learn the mindset of healthcare professionals and how to better communicate with them in trauma or health related situations.
We now have a good idea of what we want to carry in our medical kit. We also got a chance to practice some of the skills required, like giving an injection. We learned how to hydrate someone with an IV bag into the skin rather than into a vein.
The class size was small, only 14 people. There were several couples and two professional crew. There was a mix of mono hull and catamaran sailors. Two people were local, one couple came from Houston, but we one the "Who Came Farthest" award.
