The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

We've been here almost a week now. Getting used to taking the dinghy back and forth from the marina to the boat. We attended the Latitude 38 and Mexican Tourism party on Friday night. It was fun as they hired a fire eater/dancer to perform for the crowd.

We continue to run into various friends we've met along the way. Some are coming and some are going, its hard to keep track of everyone.

There's a event of sorts going on this week called the Banderas Bay Blast. It's a sort of race/rally that includes a few marinas and anchorages. The first race was on Sunday and I was crew on Nova, a Catalina 42 from Encinal YC. We met Mike and Ina in Half Moon Bay all the way back in August. Mike and I were double handing. We did pretty well, finishing ahead of the other Catalina 42, Destiny. Mike was happy to have bragging rights over the other boat. Neither Ina or Melodie care for racing, so they joined us for the party afterward.

Richard Spindler (Latitude 38) was there throwing water balloons from the roof. Prizes were awarded if you could catch a water balloon without having it break. Melodie won a bottle of decent white wine.

Our friends Shannon and Rob from s/v Whisker Away are here on a weeks vacation. They keep their catamaran at Gate 11 back in Alameda. Shannon and Rob are quickly gaining fame in Starshine history. They were the ones to throw off our dock lines in Alameda, now they're the first people to visit us from the US. Shannon brought us a care package of Peet's Major Dickenson coffee and some much needed repair parts for our water maker.

Thanks to my sister Cheri for taking delivery of the repair parts and getting them to Shannon.

There are tons of pelicans and other birds here. We hear them splashing next to the boat all the time.
