Barra de Navidad

Raining
Well it looks like it's been a couple of weeks since I posted to our blog.
We spent three nights in Melaque before moving over to the marina Puerto de Navidad. We spent six nights in the marina. We had the boat washed and waxed and the bottom cleaned. We also enjoyed the amenities at the Grand Bay Hotel, including their pools and internet.
Barra de Navidad is a nice town with tourist shops and small taquerias to eat at. You can take your dinghy over to the Sands Hotel and use their quay wall to tie up. We used the Book Exchange here in town. It's a small alcove the size of a long closet. You leave a book and take a book. Melodie picked a book on horses she thought she'd like, but it wasn't what she thought. We returned a couple of days later but the place was closed. Melodie reached through the iron gate and selected another book within arms reach (leaving the horse book in the "IN" box).
We enjoyed an authentic Chinese dinner with a large group this week. A gringo in town has a Chinese wife. She prepares a buffet in her home and it's BYOB. It was delicious. We had pineapple chicken, fish balls, egg rolls, broccoli beef, chow mien, and sauteed greens. Their house had a lush tropical garden and we dined under palapas. The only drawback was the mosquitoes. Their house is on a canal and we had to apply multiple coats of bug spray.
We moved to the anchorage in the Lagoon at Barra on Friday 2/13. Maybe that was an omen (Friday the 13th). A rain squall came in at just after midnight. Pouring rain and wind gusts in the high 20's. We stayed awake from midnight until 2:00 am just to make sure our anchor held (it did).
Melodie heads back to the SF Bay Area on Monday to take care of a few things. One of the things to buy is a new keyboard for my laptop. The "F" and "v" keys have stopped working. Making posting on this blog lots of fun!
We'll be in Barra de Navidad a few days after Melodie returns, then we'll start working our way north. We originally thought we'd make it as far south as Zihuatanejo, but not this year.
