The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Pat - Sunny
Today is Wednesday April 22. We left Mazatlan on Sunday morning April 19 at about 0830. The sun was shining, but there wasn't much wind. The seas were not that big, 4-5 feet. But the direction of the waves caused the boat to "hobby horse". So no rolling from sided to side, but an uncomfortable motion none the less.

There were four other boats making the crossing at the same time as us. They all knew each other and there was quite a bit of chatter on the radio. We kept pace with a Tayana 55 sailboat. We arrived in Ensendada De Los Muertos at about 1030 on Monday morning. A total of 26 hours to cross 190 NM.

We only stayed in Muertos for one night. We got up early (before dawn) on Tuesday and got underway at 0700. We made our way up the Cerralvo channel. We saw lots of fish, including dolphins, jumping rays and a few Marlin. We arrived in Marina Palmira about 1430.

We will stay here about 3-4 nights before heading north into the Sea of Cortez.

We are having dinner tonight with our friends from Oakland Yacht Club, Wind Dancer and Optimus Prime.

The "to do" list isn't that long for this stop. We washed the boat today. We will get diesel on the way out. That leaves propane and laundry tomorrow, then groceries. We are finding it's important not to stock up too much, or things like cereal or crackers get stale by the time you eat them.
