The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Pat
Today is Sunday November 15, 2015.

We are still housed at Bungalows Mar Sol. The work is almost complete on the boat. The only remaining job is to put the propeller back on.

We've tried to enjoy some of the local flavors. We took the bus to old town and Melodie bought some coffee beans at a place she likes. We walked around the old Market again, but didn't see anything that we needed. We've taken some walks on the beach and watched the sun set.

They have a small distillery nearby. I'd call it a boutique distillery. The make tequila and several liqueurs. But at $50 USD for a bottle we didn't buy any. We did sample quite a few. We both liked their coffee liqueur and the Anejo tequila.

They do an informal happy hour here at the motel. The group is half American, half Canadian. They come down to Mazatlan for the season, arriving in early November and staying until April. It's nice to meet some non-boating people for a change. They do tease us though about getting the boat back in the water. Many of the past boat owner guests have stayed much longer than originally expected. We are a few days over the original estimate. But you have to be flexible if you're gonna own a boat and live on it.

We got our sun shades from Ruben on Saturday. We were quite pleased with his work and are anxious to use them when we get to our next anchorage.

The picture shows our new black bottom paint, should be good for another two years.
