The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Paradise Village Nuevo Vallarta

04 December 2015 | Paradise Village Marina
Pat (and Melodie)
Today is Friday December 4, 2015.

We are still in the Marina at Paradise Village in Nuevo Vallarta. Our original plan did not include a stay here, but Hurricane Sandra changed that plan. We didn’t see any big rains here, about 1 inch per 24 hour period over the weekend, Nov 28-29. It did downpour some on Friday evening. There were breaking waves at the marina entrance (see photo). That is why we got into the marina two days early. You try to prepare for bad weather and seas when there is a hurricane out there. This caused quite a bit of surge inside the marina. Our slip is about 250 yards inside the marina, so we moved around a lot, but there was no damage. We spent part of the rainy day sitting under a palapa on the beach watching the waves. No one was allowed in the water.

We were going to leave on Sunday 11/30, but we discovered the marina was honoring a special rate. We took advantage of the discount and chose to stay until tomorrow, 12/5. We have been using all the amenities here at Paradise Village. Happy Hour 2 for 1 drinks poolside has been a favorite. We also discovered they have a small lap pool. This pool is not supported by wait staff, so it’s BYOB. Which is nice, because no outside food or beverages are allowed at the main pool. It’s also quieter. I have not seen any children at this pool. It’s nice to go for a dip and cool off, then read a book while you air dry.
We took advantage of the local labor and had the boat decks and deck house waxed. They also polished the stainless steel. We are all set for the coming months now as far as our fiberglass and metal go.

We took the bus down to the old part of town on Thursday. We walked along the Malicon and looked at the small shops there. Melodie made some purchases for family at Christmas. We had lunch overlooking the beach. It seems odd to have Christmas decorations along with the tropical plants and palms.

Our friends on another boat came over for cocktails and to finish our card game of Phase 10. Melodie came from behind to win the overall game. It is pleasant sitting in the cockpit of the boat looking at the pelicans roosting every evening in the mangrove trees just across the canal behind the boat.

We will make use of the great water pressure here before heading out tomorrow. We’ll be at anchor for two weeks before returning here as originally planned for Christmas. Our wifi will be sketchy for awhile, but our cell service works fine.

That’s all for now.
