The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Tenacatita

18 January 2016 | Tenacatita Bay
Pat (and Melodie)
Here is a shot of the anchorage at Tenacatita. We took it from the top of the hill east of the bay. We had taken a taxi into the small town of La Manzanilla. While we were there we ate at Pedro’s on the beach. So far it’s Melodie’s favorite fish taco place in Mexico. We also took the crocodile nature walk and visited the crocodile nursery there. You walk on a boardwalk a few inches above the estuary with with large wild crocs in it. We also pet a baby 3 year old croc at the nursery. It was much softer than expected.

The water in Tenacatita is very nice and warm. We go swimming off the back of the boat every day. Melodie has been swimming to shore with the swim team. It is a leisurely swim to the beach from the back of the mayor’s boat. People gather on the beach for Bocchi ball or a walk. Then drinks at the palapa and perhaps a game of Mexican train.

We tried our inflatable paddle board and it works great. We went over to the rocks on the west side of the anchorage and did some snorkeling. There were quite a few fish and even some sea snakes on the bottom. Little jellyfish were floating about, but they are not the stinging kind.
