The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Today is April 29.

A quick update on where we've been:

We've been busy since we arrived in La Paz. We got the boat all cleaned up in anticipation of our friends Bill and Charlene arriving.

They arrived on Wed April 20 and we spent the week in the nearby islands. We stopped at Caleta Partida, Ensenada Grande, Isla San Francisco, and San Everisto. We did some hiking and snorkeling. Charlene really loves to snorkel. We had some good meals and even stopped at Luis Seirra's place at San Everisto.

We returned to La Paz and Bill and Charlene caught a flight back to CA. Then it was time to clean up the boat again. We got the bottom cleaned and tended to some other projects. One project was fixing a leaking bolt at the bow. I could not reach the nut, so Melodie had to crawl into the chain locker to fit the nut onto the bolt. What a trooper she is. It was hot, cramped and not a fun thing to do.

We stocked up on groceries and will top off the fuel tanks in the morning. We will leave La Paz and we won't be at a dock again for a month. That means we will be "off the grid". We'll have our satellite phone and email via our SSB radio, but little or no internet. Speaking of email, our gmail account got hacked. My apologies if you got some spam from us.

We continue to be avid users of the Amigo radio net. I have been asked to be the Monday Net Controller for the next five weeks. That takes us up to June. By then we will be in San Carlos and begin to put the boat away for the summer.

Look for a blog update in a few weeks. That's all for now.
