The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

End of Season at San Carlos, Sonora Mexico

12 June 2016 | Marina San Carlos
Pat
We arrived in Marina San Carlos on Saturday May 28th. We have the same slip as we did last year on A Dock.

I had committed to be the Net Controller for the Amigo Net for the month of May. So on Monday the 30th we left the dock just after dawn to get out of the marina. All the boats and electronic "noise" has a really bad effect on your radio reception inside the marina. We exited the bay and got through the morning net without any problems. I was glad I was able to contribute to the radio community by serving as Net Control, if only for one month.

This year was a little different from last year. Last year we had lots of time before our house sitting opportunity became available. This year the sooner the boat was put away, the sooner we could enjoy staying in a house.

We worked steadily to get the "to do" list completed. We doused the head sails, changed the oil in the main engine, genset, and outboards. We dropped all the exterior canvas. We cleaned everything!

We made the same arrangements for a boat washer, bottom cleaner and boat sitter (someone to check the batteries, bilge, and generally keep track of the boat).

We departed on Thursday June 8. We will spend the summer in Dewey AZ again while my parents visit Newfoundland in their motor home.

I meet with the hand surgeon tomorrow to schedule surgery on my right hand. It's a do-over of last summer. Dupytren Contracture release surgery on my right hand and 8-10 weeks of physical therapy.

We are hoping to attend the 20th Annual Snakes to the Lake rally with the Bay Area Cobra Club. I attended my first one in 2004.

Hope you all have a great summer. Our blog will resume in the fall.
