Did you have any expectations before coming to NYC?

Yeah, I wanted to see Spiderman swing between sky scrapers. And the Avengers, Iron Man,...No just kidding. But I knew it was an iconic city, having watched movies, played computer games featuring it. I did expect to see some movies being shot in the streets, but there wasn't any.

So how did it live to your expectations?

It was great. You know what's interesting, it's the only place where I enjoyed being by myself. Normally, everywhere we've been has been better shared with someone else. But here, there is so much to see and do, I much prefer to be on my own to take it all in. My favourite was walking randomly around town, just getting a feel for the place. You can sense the energy from the millions of people running around, the traffic is incredible. I got lost a few times, but that was great too, because when you're lost you don't know what to expect and everything is a surprise.

Weren't you scared?

A little at first. Remember when I was supposed to meet you guys at Sylvia's in Harlem, and I took the wrong train. I ended up at City Hall, near the Brooklyn Bridge, and thought "how do I get to 125th Street from here?". That was scary. But then I found my way around, and I realised that if I could do that in NYC, I could work my way around anywhere. I guess you can say, it's not where you go that matters so much, but rather the journey to get there.

Where did you go?

Downtown Manhattan (I wasn't interested in seeing New Jersey). Broadway, the baseball field in Central Park, 5th Avenue, Times Square. Man, I love Times Square, all the lights, the huge billboards, the music...the atmosphere is so vibrant, electric, euphoric! It's awesome!

Your favourite spots ( by yourself or with the rest of us)?

Besides Times Square? The top of the Empire State Building was pretty cool. I loved going into the Apple Store, I could spend hours in there looking at all their products, it's nice how you're allowed to play with them all. I wish I had money to buy my own stuff though. I know people like to shop in NYC, but I didn't: everything is so expensive, that's no fun when you can't afford it. Having this routine of going to Starbucks for the internet everyday, was great though. Sitting there with locals sipping their coffees while at their computers, made me feel less like a tourist and more like a New Yorker.

We know you like to eat, any memorable food experience?

Not really. You don't go to New York for the food, as a matter of fact, I know we ate out, but I can't remember anywhere specifically. I recall the hot dog shop on Broadway (Green Papaya), the burger joint we went to for our last night (Bill's Burger), and Blue Fin on Times Square. But I think that Zabar's was the best: anything from that shop was great, especially the paninis. Why didn't we have lunch there more often? It was cheap too!

Would you go back?

Absolutely! That's where the action is, where people come to realise their dreams, it's epic! I need to find a job that takes me to New York when I get older. How do I go about it?

A quoi t'attendais-tu avant de venir à New York ?

Je m'attendais à voir Spiderman se balancer entre 2 gratte-ciels. Et les « Avengers », « Iron Man »....Non je plaisante. Mais c'est vrai que c'est une ville phare, ayant regardé des dizaines de films et joue à des jeux videos, figurant New York. J'espérais voir des équipes de tournage dans les rues, mais on n'en a pas trouvé.

Et alors ?

C'était super. Et pour la première fois, je trouve une ville que je peux apprécier en solitaire. Avant, tous les endroits qu'on a visités étaient plus attrayants quand on était en groupe. Mais ici, il y a tellement de choses à voir et à faire, je préfère en profiter tout seul. Ce que j'ai aimé le plus c'est de marcher au hasard dans la ville, juste pour sentir l'ambiance. Il y a une telle énergie palpable, qui émane des millions de personnes qui sillonnent les rues de New York, sans parler de la circulation. Je me suis égaré quelques fois, mais c'était bien quand même, car quand on est perdu, on ne sait pas à quoi s'attendre et tout devient une surprise.

Tu n'as pas eu peur ?

Un peu au début. Tu te rappelles quand je devais vous rejoindre chez Sylvia's à Harlem, et je me suis trompe de train. J'ai débarqué a City Hall, a l'entrée du pont de Brooklyn, et j'ai panique un peu en me demandant comment « comment vais-je a la 125eme rue maintenant ? » Mais j'ai fini par trouver mon chemin, et j'ai réalisé que si je pouvais m'en sortir à NYC, je peux me débrouiller n'importe où. Je commence à comprendre que ce qui importe ce n'est pas la destination, c'est la façon dont on y arrive.

Ou es-tu allé ?

Dans le centre de Manhattan (le New Jersey ne m'intéressait pas trop). Broadway, le terrain de baseball dans Central Park, la 5eme avenue, Times Square. Ah, comme j'adore Times Square, ses néons, ses énormes panneaux de pub, sa musique...l'ambiance est tellement vivante, électrique, euphorique ! C'est génial !

Tes endroits préférés (en groupe avec nous ou tout seul) ?

A part Times Square ? Le sommet de l'Empire State Building était impressionnant. J'ai bien aime passer mon temps dans le magasin Apple, je pourrais y passer des heures à zieuter tous leurs appareils. En plus ils vous laissent les essayer tous. Comme j'aimerai avoir assez de sous pour m'offrir mes propres trucs. C'est le problème de New York : les gens aiment y faire du shopping, moi pas du tout. Tout est tellement cher, ça n'a aucun intérêt quand on n'a pas assez d'argent. Par contre, c'était génial d'avoir cette petite routine Starbucks tous les jours pour faire de l'internet. Rien que d'être parmi les habitants qui sirotent leur café en bossant sur leurs ordinateurs, je me suis senti moins comme un touriste, et plus comme un new yorkais.

On sait que tu aimes bien manger, as-tu goute un plat inoubliable ?

Pas vraiment. Je ne suis pas allé à new York pour la gastronomie. En fait, je sais que nous sommes sortis pas mal de fois, mais je ne me rappelle pas d'un endroit particulier. Si, allez, je me souviens du vendeur de hot dog au coin de la rue, le restau de hamburgers ou nous sommes allés pour notre dernière soirée, et Blue Fin à Times Square. Mais ce que j'ai préféré par-dessus tout c'est Zabar's : tout ce qui sort de cet endroit est délicieux, surtout les paninis. On aurait dû y déjeuner plus souvent, surtout que ce n'était pas cher !

Aimerais-tu y retourner ?

Absolument ! C'est là ou tout arrive, ou des milliers arrivent du monde entier pour y réaliser leurs rêves, c'est trop génial ! Il faut que je me trouve un job qui m'amènera à New York plus tard. Par où commencer ?
