Korman Adasi
Another small anchorage on the way to Kucadasi. This one was only a small bay that afforded reasonable protection from the meltimi. It had a couple of hotsprings also. What we did not know however that many gilets and tripper boats brought their clients there. Music, dancing and frivolity.
Anyway we entered and took a line ashore and settled in for a lovely afternoon amongst the coming and going of tourist craft, doof doof music and grating hips from those dancing on the boats....arghh
Not far from us was a fishing boat. Three guys were cleaning their nets, and I waved and shrugged my shoulders. One guy looked, laughed and threw his arms in the air...yeah I knew he was thinking. I mimicked hand actions to him asking if he had caught any fish. Well, he gave the thumbs up, and a few minutes later beckoned me over. I jumped in the water and swam over to his boat. He helped me up and gave me a heap of small sardine type fish...fantastic, I was stoked. On getting back to boat, Sabrina gave me an Australian flag to give him....he was so excited....all of this without a word of Turkish or English, although he did say, "Jacuzzi, Jacuzzi", obviously referring to the hot springs, thumbs up. So cool to have met them...a great experience.
Ok, the hot springs. There are two, on in a cave on the eastern side of the island to the right of the bay, the second at the head of the bay itself.
Everyone visited the hot spring in the cave. You actually swim into the cave and wade ito the back of it where the water temperature increases to around 40C. Nathan, Megan, myself and Sabrina all spent time in it. Sabrina went back a few times as she loves caves and hot springs, so she got a daily double here.
As the afternoon progressed, the wind picked up and some gusts and swell filled into the bay. Because we were anchored with lines tied to shore, the boat was presented broad side to the both swell and wind and it became untenable, so we released the lines and anchored as a free swing in the middle of the bay.
One worded advice for anyone seeking refuge here and thinking of taking lines ashore be aware that you may need minimal scope of chain because the tripper boats reverse in and drop their anchors where convenient, which may be straight over yours. A smaller scope causes issues if the wind comes up, so it is a balance act. The tripper boats usually disappear by 3 PM....
