The 60th Birthday Cruise

31 August 2015
Day 3
Sunday 23rd August 2015
Port Chantereyne, Cherbourg
Current Position:
49 38 75N
01 37 28W
It rained most of the night and up until mid-day. BIG raindrops - like marbles dropping onto the water. A weather check showed that the threatened weather front was still imminent for tomorrow but the wind would be from the North. After much discussion and another look at our favoured weather site, Passage Weather, we decided that Alderney was not the place to be in winds of 30 - 40 knots coming from the North. We discussed moving round to St Vaast but soon realised that our arrival there would be after dark. We prefer to go in during daylight hours as the approach is a mass of pots and getting one of those wrapped around the prop is a real no - no . So, the decision was made. We would stay put another day, cancel our trip to Alderney and cruise the East Coast instead, leaving early Tuesday morning. We put the cock pit cover up as this creates another room - a "conservatory" and means that we can sit in the cockpit regardless of what the weather is doing. A wander around town and along the harbour wall followed by a chill in our conservatory. By 4pm the sun was out and we rolled up the sides and back of the cover which then turned into a Bimini! A beer, and a G & T and a spag bol!
Incident Of The Day: Putting up the cock pit cover - such a good call
Thought For The day: If in any doubt - stay put. We don't need to look for histrionics!
