The barometer has plummeted from 1014 (Friday - our crossing over) to 990. A sure sign that something horrid is about to happen. We woke to yet more rain and a very low grey sky. In an odd sort of way, we are hoping that the high winds do appear as predicted at mid day - if only to confirm our decision to stay put was the right one!!. By 2pm we were needing to get off the boat and although it was still drizzling, we decided to visit the Basilique Sainte-Trinite and the Parc Emmanuel-Liais. The Basilica is one of the oldest monuments in Cherbourg and contains 15th Century baptismal fonts as well as the most beautiful stained glass windows. A truly stunning piece of architecture dating back to the 1300's. A walk around the Parc was well worth dodging the rain under some amazing trees. Originally the home to Emmanuel Liais it is now a museum and gardens, with greenhouses (containing specimens brought by him from the Americas) an observatory and scientific library. The rain continued and we decided that while we were out and wet we would find somewhere to eat and then hunker down on board for the rest of the evening. Our favourite Italian restaurant was both close by and open so we dived in and worked our way through Mouilles and Frites before arriving back to Stiletto soaking wet. The wind was now blowing hard from the NW, the rain was even harder and the barometer was down to 980. Not good. Another discussion and we have yet again given in to the weather. Tuesday looks equally as horrid as today so we will stay put and head to St Vaast on Wednesday (hopefully!).
Incident Of The Day: The discovery of water dripping onto the saloon sofa. After taking down the headlining we realised water collected in a reservoir that runs from the ventilation intake on the coach roof. Once we put it all back together and tightened the screws the dripping stopped.
Song of the Day: Sweet Surrender by Wet Wet Wet
Thought Of The Day: We did the right thing by staying put.
