2 Go Mad Round The East Coast
22 September 2016
Day 4 Tuesday 6th Sept
Dover to Queenborough 58 miles
We sought permission from Port Control to leave by the Eastern Entrance at 7.50am. We were instructed to stand off for a few minutes close to the harbour wall whilst 2 ferries came in. It was while we were waiting we got to take a close look at the wall which was quite stunning. After 10 minutes we were given clearance to leave in the wake of a very large passenger ferry. Once outside the harbour we continued to motor to Queenborough as there was absolutely no wind.
Queenborough is on the River Swale near the mouth of the River Medway on the Thames Estuary and is a great starting point for going up the River Thames. It is very quiet, very basic and very laid back and in fact when we radioed the harbour master to see about paying for the mooring we had taken he was more than happy for us to pay when we returned on Thursday. That would never happen in the Solent. We had a great nights sleep - very still and calm, unlike the previous night.
