2 Go Mad Round The East Coast

Day 12
Blackwater to Walton on the Naze 28 miles
We were up and preparing to leave when I heard someone shouting onshore. I also heard a fog horn going off. After about 10 minutes I realised that someone outside the Marconi Sailing club was yelling our name and blasting on a fog horn to get our attention. I have no idea at all how he expected to communicate with us given he was on land and we were out on a swinging mooring. I could only assume that he wanted us off the mooring. So, we left shortly afterwards at 9.30am, heading for Walton on the Naze - the Walton Backwaters. The wind was so on our nose it wasn't funny and as we were on a tight schedule to get over the bar by 2pm we decided we needed to motor sail. We only just made it and followed the channel markers in with a depth of 0.9m under the keel at one point. We dropped the hook and spent the afternoon dozing in the cockpit and watching sheep on the land, seals in the water and birds on the shoreline. Makes you feel good to be alive.
Thought for the day: Marconi - leaders in Communications?????
