Port Solent Marina
We made our way up Portsmouth Harbour towards Port Solent Marina passing close to Porchester Castle - a medieval castle built within a former Roman fort to the east of Fareham, Hampshire. The fort was thought to have been built by Marcus Aurelius Carausius between 285 and 290 and the castle itself was probably built in the late 11th century. It is absolutely steeped in history and if you are in Hampshire well worth a visit.
Having arrived at Port Solent on Sunday and after a very relaxed supper on board, Martin Leaning's team arrived next morning at 8.10am and by 9.15 am the job was done and Stiletto is now mast less. It was a totally painless and stress free exercise. We are so very impressed with how the guys all worked together and that they all quietly got on with the task in hand. I personally was quite distressed to see my boat being taken apart but soon realised that I need not worry at all. It is an insurance requirement that all sail boats have their rigging replaced every 10 years and as she is 10 years old this year it needs to be done.
Martin will do a thorough examination of the mast and will submit his report and recommendations along with the cost.
It is very weird seeing Stiletto without a mast and I will take the opportunity to wash all her ropes as some are horribly green.
