Nisos Samos – Marathakambos
We said our farewells to Fournio and our next stop would be the unfinished marina at Marathakambos on the island of Samos.
There was no wind, a flat sea but pouring rain and a very angry sky. We didn't mind as we didn't have far to go and although we got wet, the sea conditions were good. In fact, this was the first time we had been out on the water in rain for a very long time.
Marathakambos has a small harbour as well as a marina. We stuck our nose into the harbour but it was full. The marina however was empty save for a couple of local fishing boats. It looked very new, the pods on the pontoon were still wrapped in plastic but it was not operational. We tied up alongside and found just one pod that had electricity so immediately plugged into that. The water tap also worked.
Yet again this is another unfinished project. It is a tragedy. It is very sheltered, the pontoons are clean and everything is in place but not connected .
Back in September of 2018, we met a lovely couple in Cargèse, France – Sara and Toby, yacht Freya. We have kept in touch and recently found ourselves to be close and arranged to meet up in Marathakambos . For us it would be a short hop from there to Samos Marina (our winter home) but they still had 250 miles to go before arriving in their winter home of Finike in Turkey.
They arrived the morning after us, and we thoroughly enjoyed their company for coffee in the morning followed by supper in one of the very few tavernas that were open.
It is so very nice to catch up with people who we have met and liked. We all have different stories and experiences to share, and we exchange knowledge of places that we have visited.
I waved them off early next morning, sad to see them leave, but hoping our paths will cross next season.
Muse for this post: There is a purpose for everyone you meet. Some people come into your life to test you, some to teach you, some to use you , and some to bring out the very best in you.
