We actually spent 3 weeks here, both waiting for Andrea's foot to heal and for the very gusty wind to sort itself out and settle down before heading back to Ikaria to collect our residency cards. We had received a telephone call from the police to say they were ready after 2 weeks but it was another week before we felt comfortable to leave.

So in the meantime, we hired a car for the day and hit 3 different pharmacies on the island and have seriously stocked up with the necessary meds for Andreas foot. He has had 3 separate issues with mosie bites in as many months and I felt it would be wise to “be prepared “. In the evening we went back to Restaurant Horizontas and enjoyed an evening of romance, sunset, exceptional food and delicious wine.

Eventually we had a weather window to cross to Ikaria and headed off. The day after our arrival we visited the police station and collected our cards.

And we are still here ! Because, our next hurdle is to be vaccinated. We have agonised over this subject for many months. Neither of us want it. We both feel it is wrong to be put into a position to do something that we do not agree with. Neither do we feel these vaccinations have been trialled any where near long enough. I personally can't help myself from thinking about the Thalidomide drug that was offered to pregnant women suffering from chronic morning sickness back in the 1960’s. My mum was pregnant with my sister and suffered terrible sickness but thankfully declined to take the drug. We all know what the outcome was for so many new mums – miscarriages and birth defects. Many doctors around the world felt clinical trials had not been adequate, consequently there was a lack of evidence regarding its safety in humans. These are of course, my own thoughts and if I am really honest dear reader, I am scared. Scared that I could develop health issues on the back of being vaccinated and scared for our future generations. I do not believe there has been enough time given to addressing any long term side effects. Covid 19 has only been around officially for 18 months. The vaccinations for far less.

But – we want to return to the UK in November. We are still hopeful that we can plan our wedding. Andreas needs to get several medical checks done. He hasn't been back for 2 years. We both need eye tests and new glasses. I need a routine mammogram. In order to do all of this we must be vaccinated. Its wrong.

Muse for this post: its good to question what you are told by politicians, history has proven that they do get it wrong .
