And finally, and most spectacularly, we finish on a high and visited the Orlias Waterfalls situated in the Orlias Canyon which is a gorge 2 kilometres long and runs through the north-eastern part of Mount Olympus. It is a beautiful forested canyon with 25 waterfalls and countless natural pools.
Orlias comes from the Greek verb meaning “ making a lot of noise “ and that is exactly what the water does as it crashes against the boulders in the river.
The two accessible falls – Orlias and Orpheus – have crystal clear water which is potable.
The water however is freezing cold because it runs down from Mount Olympus. The bottom of the lagoons are entirely of stone and in some places very deep. The beauty of both these falls is breathtaking.
Andreas was brave enough to take a plunge – he didn't stay in for very long !!!
