Peloponnese - Tolo

Tolo is just a few miles north from Vivari and we decided to go take a look. It has a good reputation as a holiday location and its 2km long sandy beach is the main attraction. It is also close to ancient sites of Epidavros, Mycenae, Argos and Nafplion.
It is very sheltered by nearby islands and many small boats lie at anchor . Once a small fishing village it built up rapidly and for a time lost some of its appeal but locals have got development under control and the town has regained its charm . Fifty years ago there were just one or two hotels. Today there are more than 100, most of which are literally on the beach. The winter population of no more than 1,500 explodes in summer to more than 5,000.
We cruised around for a while and explored several anchorages which would be perfect for a return visit some time. The main 'strip' didn't interest us at all. Way too busy !!!
Thought for today: over development resulting in mass tourism is becoming the norm. It is great to be able to look at towns and villages from the sea. You get a whole different picture and you can easily see the new developments. Its not always good.
