Transmission

Dain
Well, I wish I had better news - it looks like our transmission is probably dead, which means we're really committed to a long sail now. We were able to get it into gear a few days ago, and I hold out hope we might be able to get it into gear again, but it has developed a nasty whining growl when we run the engine, which makes me think the clutches are fried, or the brake bands... either way, it's not good news.
We're on a great tack currently, heading almost due N towards San Diego, and it's getting inexorably closer every moment. We have lots of wind, maybe a wee bit too much at times - last night was crazy. Gusts to 25 and the waves were really piled up. Still, I'd rather have wind, than no wind! It's a nice cool breeze too, much more comfortable than the sweltering muggy heat we've endured the past few weeks.
The kids are daydreaming about food and restaurants, places they want to go, things they want to do, and they're all getting plenty of time on minecraft and their nintendos, so overall, morale is high. Everyone is getting plenty of rest, and the boat is getting pretty well lived- in. I wish we were home, but sometimes, you don't always get what you wish for. Such, is life.
