Winter Quarters
We found the marina at Riposto to be relatively new with good facilities and close to the town. The cost for overwintering is reasonable and we are close to Catania airport, so we decided to leave Summertime there for the winter. We will have to hope Etna stays quiet for the next 6 months as Riposto [...]
Genoa

17th June: Varazze to Genoa
Cast off after leisurely breakfast just after 11.00 for trip to Genoa. Sun shining and little wind but as seems to be the pattern, in the early afternoon we had 15 knots over the port side which we could use to advantage. We reached Genoa about 2.30 and on entering the port saw the sad sight of the Costa Concordia and the extensive damage she suffered when she ran aground and capsized.
We moored in part of the old port which has been renovated. The harbour is still very busy with ferries, cruise liners and cargo ships so we had to navigate carefully to keep out of their way.
The city has some impressive architecture from its heyday as a rival to Venice and some rather run down areas close to the port. In exploring the port area for a chandlery I came across a hideous sculpture designed not only to frighten the children but their parents as well.
Nevertheless Genoa is a very interesting city and we would have liked to stay longer but we need to press on. From here we turn south, at last heading towards our rendezvous with Matt and Lizzie in Naples.
