Winter Quarters
We found the marina at Riposto to be relatively new with good facilities and close to the town. The cost for overwintering is reasonable and we are close to Catania airport, so we decided to leave Summertime there for the winter. We will have to hope Etna stays quiet for the next 6 months as Riposto [...]

8th Sept. Bastia to Macinaggio.
We have decided to leave Summertime in Port Toga, Bastia for the winter, it is safe, reasonably priced and close to the airport.
We set off to circumnavigate the island, planning to arrive back in Bastia in time to catch a flight back on October 2nd.
The weather has calmed down after 2 windy and stormy days so we set off north to Macinaggio some 17 miles away. On the way we anchored in a bay for lunch but the swell left over from the recent winds made it very uncomfortable so we left as soon as we had eaten.
Macinaggio is a very small former fishing port with a large marina attached. It is quiet and pretty but you can see it all in an hour. We will spend 2 days here before heading north around the top of the island to explore the west coast, reputedly the most beautiful part.
