Tuesday- Tarantulas
08 December 2009 | Panama- Isla Taboga
Mostly sunny, very warm, light breeze, land and sea
While John was still recovering from his cold, doing some last minute chores and waiting for Steve to arrive I went with the Nauman's be ferry to the nearby island of Taboga. First we stopped at Chewy and Susan's house, the locals who run the mooring field, for some directions to hike to the top of the island. Though we were a little confused we headed out rembering the directions as we went, at least we thought so. The climb was steep and a little scary as Cindy passed by the first of several tarantulas, or was it a herd, we were to see.
Soaked with sweat by the time we stopped at the 3 crosses, the place where 3 supposed thieves as legend ahs it were hung, we caught our breath and went on. About an hour into the climb we came to the "main road" Chewy talked about although we couldn't quite remember which way he said to go to the next stop, lookout point. After Dave did some reconnaisance we did find the telephone pole and the look out, quite a lovely view. The back tracking on the main road and downhill we walked until we were very concernd that we went the wrong way. Finally I saw a family on a off road four wheeler and they must have took pity on my bad Spanish translation letting us all ride in the back of the truck to the edge of town. Back in civilization we quickly headed for lunch, then a swim at the beach and finally some cold cerveza (beer).
