Shopping in the San Blas Islands

Day before yesterday, we took the dinghy to shore to explore and get checked into the Comarca of Kuna Yala. After doing the paperwork with the port captain and the Kuna Indian Tribe, we walked to all four buildings on this sand spit (that has a paved runway and regular air service to panama city!). When we walked back to the dinghy, we got lucky and the vegetable boat was there - time to shop. Geraldo had a 28 foot open outboard boat filled to the gunnels with everything you could think of, passion fruit, papaya, melons, all kinds of vegetables. This, apparently, is the routine for cruisers here. We also got four live lobsters from four guys in a dugout canoe a little later.
Yesterday, we about a mile and a half to the neighboring island of Wichubhuala - we were told by the crew of a small freigher that there was a store there. Which there was. The only things they had that we wanted were gasoline and beer. The sign on the door said they had pollo entero y alitas (whole chickens and chicken wings) turned out "no hay" (there isn't any) - but before we left they crossed out the chicken part of the sign. Oh well. Guess we will have to live on lobster and vegetables while we are here!
