06 May 2010 | Colombia- Haynes Cay (San Andres) to Providencia
Mostly sunny, warm, moderate breeze, northeasterly
Made an early start for a long day sail to Providencia, another Colombian governed island 100 miles or so east of Nicaragua. Reportedly a laid back and smaller version of her sister island San Andres. Sailed the whole way generally making 7 knots speed over ground in about 4-5 foot seas. Then the last couple of hours the wind piped up to 25 and we were in for Mr. Toad's wild ride going into the anchorage. To top it off the rigging picked this time to show us it was loose and needed tightening and a part broke on one of the winches at a crucial time. But all was forgotten when a full double rainbow appeared in the bay where we anchored.
