Friday- Rested and Ready

21 May 2010 | Colombia (Vivarillos) to Honduras (Guanaja)
Partly cloudy, very warm, gentle breeze, southeasterly
Took a couple of nights rest after the last overnight passage and are ready for another, don't want to overdue it and make this seem like work. Put the big colorfull, billowy sail out otherwise known as the gennaker for a beautiful downwind morning sail. Then we had to pull it in and turn on the Japanese wind machines for the rest of the trip but we had following seas and it was better than the alternative of too much wind. By the way I never really knew the implications behind the old saying "fair winds and following seas" until I became a full time blue water cruiser! We did see a lot of dolphins this afternoon, it's been awhile, and they ran with us for several miles...always a pleasure. But the b ig event for me was the moonbow that evening. I may have mentioned before that our boat name, Sunbow, actually refers to a moisture ring around the sun. This the same phenomenon virtually as a rainbow and a moonbow. So having seen many of the most common type, rainbows, and now a moonbow I only have to see a sunbow. Unfortunately these are the most rare.

Vessel Name: Sunbow
Vessel Make/Model: Chris White Design Atlantic 46 LR Catamaran
Hailing Port: Fort Myers, FL
Crew: John Kremski & Sharon Del Bianco
About:
Although mid-westerners by birth we call the southwest gulf coast of Florida our "home port". John has been sailing since he was six while Sharon is a novice by comparision with only 17 years behind a boat wheel. [...]
Extra: We started cruising full time in November of 2007. It was a rough start with lots of adjustments but after about 2 years we got our "sea legs" for the lifestyle. It´s hard now to imagine any other home than being in Sunbow on the water.

The definition of a "sunbow" is ...... a rainbow-like display of colors resulting from refraction of sunlight through a spray of water...rainbow, moonbow & sunbow!
