Wednesday- Arrived at the Whales
13 February 2008 | Mexico- Bahia San Hipolito to Punta Abreojos
Mostly cloudy, cool, moderate wind
Everyone was dragging a bit today after wining and dining the night before, but we pulled anchor around 7AM to get to Punta Abreojos before sundown. Had a few whale sightings en route and dolphins as well, arrived at the Campo En Medio anchorage late afternoon. We had seen a sailboat leaving as we were pulling into the bay, a few hours later they were heading back into the anchorage and hailing us on the VHF. It was a couple, Joe and Julie from San Diego, with their son Finn and they had gone for a day sail to catch a glimpse of the whales. The Laguna San Ignacio about 15 NM south of our anchorgae is a biosphere reserve and no private boats are allowed to enter. The anchorage where we were is the closest one to the whale breeding grounds. The other sailors, boat name "Wildflower" were wanting to know if we wanted to share a tour boat ride (and I use that term loosely) into the reserve the next day. Of course we did and thanked them for arranging the tour. Everyone was in bed early to lick their wounds from the red wine consumption of the night before and prepare for WHALE DAY!!!!!
