Sunny Skies meets Richard Branson's Cat Necker Belle!

05 August 2010 | Virgin Gorda North sound
Check out this video of Richard Branson's cat the Necker Belle. We were actually there in Virgin Gorda North Sound when they were filming this. We zoomed around the Belle a few times in the dinghy and they all waved and said hello - Richard didn't invite us aboard for drinks though. We were going to invite them over to Sunny Skies for a boatdrink, but sadly after snorkeling for miles we ran out of energy. Sunny Skies appears in the vdeo (you have to put up with a commercial before seeing the video - sorry) for a split second. As Branson and his guest are going up the mast in the "elevator" (definitely an improvement over the bosun's chair!) when Nate says "Now how far left?" Sunny Skies is the the one on the left! Cool huh? You can see the yellow kayak on the bow.

It's easy to have just as much fun as Richard Branson.... with several less zeros in the price tag!!

Odyssey's End

23 May 2010 | Satellite Beach, FL
Home again, home again... the ship is docked and the odyssey is over, at least for now. It happened a lot quicker than we expected. We were in Nassau without a solid plan - not really wanting to go home and expecting to take a week or more for the trip. But it turned out there was an unusual weather pattern with 3 days of NE 10-20 knot wind - giving us a perfect beam reach all the way home. Friday morning we were in Nassau debating the best way to make the final 250 miles home. Finally we just decided to go for it and take full advantage of the wind. We did 185 miles in 24 hours and the whole 250 in less than a day and a half!! Sunny Skies loves LOVES 20 knots on the beam. It's our favorite point of sail and we knew we could get home faster than any other way - Many times we hit 10 - 11 knots or more.

So tell me again why it is we came home?

Stop the train, I want to get off...

This is what 11 knots looks like
