Honeymoon City

Today's photo is of one of the "over the water bungalow hotels" that have become popular in the Society Islands (Tahiti, Moorea, Raiatea, Bora Bora, etc.). Susan and I have spent some time trying to figure out how they deal with infrastructure and utilities to each of the units and have concluded that there must be a sewage pumping system as the runs are too long for gravity flow. The second interesting characteristic is they are entirely occupied by honeymoon couples, or couples pretending to be on their honeymoon.
David flies back to California tonight after a week of Moorea and living on a boat; we are certain he will have a greater appreciation for the things we take for granted on land, like long showers, cheap internet access, unlimited electricity, and not having to restock the refrigerator every time you take a beer out. The goodies he brought along have improved the quality of life on board; our new deck speakers are very nice for those mellow sundowner cocktails before dinner.
Moorea has recently instituted a marine management plan, sharply restricting many of the anchorages, fishing and diving areas. We will spend another week or so here and then sail back to Tahiti and explore some of the non-urban lagoons around that island. We will be flying back to the US in early August for Susan's nephew's wedding in Portland, returning to the boat in mid-August and heading for the Leeward Islands.
