Iguazu Falls, Argentina
10 August 2013
The weather in Iguazu Falls was beautiful, cool at night and warm and sunny during the day. We spent two nights at the Hotel Carmen. The hotel reminded us of the days when single level hotels dotted the roadsides along US 19 but with a Haciena flare. We took the public bus for a dollar each into town for dinner. Another great steak meal.
The following day we went to the falls. Once inside the park we took a train to the Devil's throat, Garganta de Diablo. The clouds had not had time to burn off yet so everything looked very grey and dreary but the sound of rushing water was unbelievably loud. We peered down but were not able to see where the water was going but we could hear massive amount of water heading straight down and a giant spray coming back up. We continued on to view the massive falls from many different angles. There were trails with walkways and views from above and below the falls. We could easily see the Brasilian side of the falls. We would need a visa to visit this side of the falls so we decided to only view from the Argentina side.
The two hour flight from Buenos Aires was only to see the falls. There was not much else to see here besides the reserve around the falls. It was well worth the trip. The falls were so massive no single photo shows the magnitude of what our eyes were seeing. Really beautiful. The sun came out and there were rainbows and double rainbows at every viewing point.
There was one downside. There is a little fly, we never saw him, only a small bloody scab on the legs that itches worse than a mosquito bite and for days. Bugs spray is a must on the legs.
On to Salta.
