All our friends moved on today. We are the last boat left here. Tomorrow we are going back around to Taiohae Bay, the main port here in Nuka Hiva. We were told that the fresh vegetable/fruit boat will come Tuesday and we want to stock up before heading to the Tuamotus Islands where there is no or very little fresh fruits and veggies. Our current plan is to leave Wednesday for Makemo, with Kauehi as a backup if the wind shifts to much to the southeast for a good angle to Makemo.
Should be a couple day passage and the weather is looking good at this point. The islands of the Marquesas are majestic, huge volcanic based mountains and quite breathtaking as you enter a new anchorage. The Tuamotus are low lying, archipelagos that usually have a narrow entrance and then protection once inside the lagoon. They are very low and hard to see until right on them, the opposite of the Marquesas. The Tuamotos are the land of scuba diving, snorkeling and black pearl farms.
Yesterday, we said goodbye to our crewmate, Gaya, who is now crewing on another American boat named Resolute with Tim as her new captain. They should be getting about half way to the Tuamotus now and we hope they are having a good first passage together. It was a joy having Gaya for time we did and she was a great asset on the long passage from the Galapagos to the Marquesas. We wish her all the best.
That's about it for now. We'll update as we get underway to Makemo.
