We arrived this morning at 6 AM local time to 8-10 waves at the entrance to Rangiroa. We were greeted by the customary welcoming committee of a bunch of large dolphins doing acrobatics right on the bow while surfing the waves into the anchorage. It was the end of a long night, no sleep for me after a particularly uncomfortable crossing. Not very often the wx forecast is as far off as last nights, but when the forecast changes markedly several times in the 24 hours before departure, it's usually a sign that the wx guessers have no idea and last night was a prime example. Forecast was ENE to NE winds 10-12 knots and SW swell 1.3 meters. I had east winds from 8-34 knots and NE seas at 3 meters at times and at least 2 meters all the time.
Anyway, now safe and sound in the anchorage and about to put the dink in the water and start exploring another new island atoll. We are anchored right behind the Kia Ora resort and it looks interesting from here. About a dozen boats in the anchorage, a few we recognize.
We should be back on real internet later today and have some blog updating and picture/video uploading to do.
