Well, maybe not everywhere, but we saw 3 different pods of humpback whales during our trip to Moorea today. Had a showery, slow trip, but it seemed to work out well for the whale watching effort. Yesterday, Cathy of Itusca called the whales for us so that we would see them today. We have Cindy and Larry onboard for another week or so and today was the big day to find the whales. We barely cleared the mouth of the channel leaving Tahiti and saw a group of boats all stopped and looking down into the water. Could only be one thing, then the group of 3 humpbacks surfaced right in front of us. We watched them for a while following them down to the south end of the island.
Then we peeled off, did a 180 and headed for Cooks Bay, Moorea. Got rained on a couple more times and pitched around a little as the squalls just kept spinning the wind direction around. Then, as we were approaching Cook's Bay, Cindy spotted another humpback cruising along the drop off. We followed him/her for a while and shot some good photos (soon to be forthcoming)
We are now anchored in Cook's Bay, Moorea and busy planning tomorrows activities. A good day, a good passage and got to see some magnificent creatures that had avoided us until now. I think Kim should be posting up some of the photos soon. Tomorrow we have to dinghy over to Bali Hai resort and do a land tour of the island. We'll keep you posted.
