Tahiti via Las Vegas
16 March 2015
We had to fly back to Tahiti out of the west coast so a quick stop in Las Vegas made sense. Kim had never been before so it is one of those locations you just want to check off the list. Our flight went well with a good view of the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam as we neared Las Vegas.
It was a nice place to spend two nights in the land of "more than enough". We stayed at the Palazzo. Since it was Kim's first time in Vegas they upgraded the room to a suite with a great view. The room was very big and beautiful and the view of the strip and the mountains in the background was amazing. The first night was a little hard because of the time change. We walked up and down the strip and took in all we could for the first night. In and out of the various hotels and casinos and watching the water show at the Bellagio. The following morning due to the time difference, we were up early and back on the strip. We took the double decker bus from one end of town to the old end of town. The cost was only a few dollars each and we got seats on the top floor right in front. So we had a great view. As for the gambling. Neither of us are gamblers but we did check out the casinos. The simple pull the lever and wait for three cherries kind of machine is not that simple anymore. There are about three to four pages of complicated instructions on how to line up you cherries or dollars signs and what you need to do to win. One dollars was wasted and we could tell that it may take hours and many more dollars to figure out the machines. Watching was pretty entertaining. Only regret, not seeing a show. We had hoped to see a show or two while we were there but the first night we were exhausted from the time change and leaving home at six am on the first day and the following morning we had another early flight.
We had another set of good flights from Vegas to Hawaii and then on to Tahiti. We arrived around 10 pm. The boat was pretty warm inside but cooled down with the night air. Chicagunga and Zika are still somewhat of a problem here and we have heard of a few people getting Zika since our arrival. We now have the ac on with the windows closed and are bathing in bug spray if we leave the boat. The number of cases are dwindling.
We should have most of our projects completed shortly and be ready to leave the dock soon.
