Hello beautiful loved ones! Welcome to the interweb space of salty, yet sweet, seagoing anecdotes - pieced together with words, images, videos, maps, and the sort - about a journey to nowhere.

My mini background: I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM hence NO boating experience, except for the minimal rides here and there when vacationing in Harpswell, Maine in the summer. Besides that, my life was more desert, less ocean. Schooled in Pennsylvania at Dickinson, worked in NYC at MoMA- yes life was good, but I knew it could be gooder - I was craving a non city-scape adventure... Leaving it all behind - possessions, apartment, job, security - all in NYC - I hopped on board the sailing vessel "Panthalassa", a Com-pac 27, with my amazing Captain friend Duncan Curry. We officially set sail on Wednesday, August 12th, 2015 from the Bird residence in Harpswell, Maine - southbound.

Duncan's mini background: Born and raised in Maine (Topsham, then Harpswell) - pretty much grew up on the water - schooled at Maine Maritime, worked on yachts for a few years, then bought a sailboat "Wind Song", an Alberg 37, and sailed down to Charleston, SC with his good friend Alana - then sold that to buy a smaller sailboat "Panthalassa" - been work-free for 2+ years now travelling and enjoying life.

We both came together with the mutual passion for adventure, self-sufficiency, and to get really wicked good at life :)

With enormous, gooey, squishy love,
Leah and Duncan
Vessel Name: Panthalassa
About: For now, a man and a woman. Will possibly pick up another crew (animal) member along the way.
Extra: Hello fellow family and friends! We are embarking on a sailing/ life voyage starting early August from Harpswell, ME to possibly the Bahamas, stopping along the way whenever and wherever the wind takes us (metaphorically and literally).

Last couple weeks at work were precious! What a beautiful, loving, intellectual environment to have the opportunity to work in - THANK YOU to everyone at MoMA, I loved working with you and MISS YOU ALL. The last few weeks in NYC were INSANITY - but a good kind of insanity...Packing late into the night, sleep deprived, seeing friends, working events at work, last minute everything, pretty much. I felt blissfully overwhelmed, if that makes any sense. My time in NYC was bookended with my good friend Margaret Battey from college who came up from DC to drive me and all my schtuff up to Maine...SO GRATEFUL! I don't know what I would do without her. Love love love you. Maine too, was quite a rollercoaster of events and the thought of "how the heck are we going to fit all this in..." - Hal and Geoff wedding in York, ME - followed by a birthday SLASH anniversary SLASH memorial at my Grandmother's home in Cundy's Harbor, ME - followed by adjusting to living on a boat!... I quickly became initiated into the boat culture with my first reality check = a wicked good fall into one of the lazzarettes --- I had a bruise on my bum bum and my back leg for weeks - ROYGBIV were all accounted for. What a lovely few weeks it was to spend in Maine before departing - We had the privilege of visiting our good friend Seth Hewitt at his family vacation home in Popham Beach - no words can describe how beautiful it was, truly. THANK YOU SETH!! Fast forward a few days (or who knows, it all sort of blends together at this point) we embarked on my first ever sea trial up to Booth Bay to see Duncan's grandparents at the Rocktide Inn - Asher came up to meet us for a day! What a STUNNING beautiful place on earth with such wonderful company - The trip up and back were soooo educational - I experienced many varying emotions: terror, excitement, fear, love, passion, doubt...you name it. All in all, they summed up to the realization... I LOVE MY LIFE. Couldn't have asked for a better preface...
