Arrive Miyonoura, Yakushima

We arrived Miyonoura today about noon local time. The SW monsoon was blowing strong with squalls and we hoped to duck for cover after passing the cape at the north end of Yakushima. But NO! the wind only accelerated and blew stronger. We entered the small port of Miyanoura and tied to the wall in the fishing port. There was barely enough room to get our 25 foot beam between the concrete piers protecting the harbour.

The chart just showed the entrance as green. That means the entrance is essentially uncharted and is likely less than 2 meters. We entered about mid-tide on falling spring tide. The tidal range is 2m and our forward look sonar showed minimum depth below keel (which is 1m) of 3m. So we had plenty of depth but not much width.

We tied up against the wall at 30 25.7792N 130 34.2501E. At low tide we showed 0.9m below the keel.

So we have arrived safe and sound. Yakushima is a World Heritage Area so we plan to spend a few days here looking around before starting the final leg of this journey to Fukuoka.
