Well it's 0400

Well it's 0400 and we are anchored in Isla San Cristobal, the most eastern island of the Galapagos Islands. There is no wind and there is a swell that is coming in over the reef. Although we put out a stern anchor last night it isn't doing it's job and we are rolling uncomfortably. So I am up early!
We have been here 3 days now and have only been ashore once. The Internet ashore was extremely slow and disappointing and we still have mail and other issues to resolve when we find a good internet café but the town is very quaint and has a different flavor then other areas we visited. We look forward to exploring it.
The check in process has kept us on the boat waiting for our agent and officials to complete our admission paperwork. We have been doing boat work to pass the time. They finally showed up yesterday afternoon and we are now cleared. We had no unforeseen problems but other boats that we arrived with weren't so lucky. One catamaran discovered that their documentation papers instead of reading net weight 8 tons erroneously indicated their weight to be 81 tons. The Port Captain want's to charge them about 15 dollars a ton to clear and won't look at any other documents indicating their weight accurately. Another vessel was discovered to have weevils in their flour and will now be charged 140 dollars to fumigate their vessel. Clearing in is always fraught with discovering unknown regulations and fines and the check in here is particularly expensive. If it weren't a once in a lifetime experience to be here we would have skipped these islands.
Later today we expect to go ashore and plan our week here. There are tours to all the attractions. I hope to swim with the sharks on a professionally supervised two-tank scuba dive before we leave. I plan to swim next to some chunky divers when I'm under water!
We are meeting a different kind of cruiser than we have in the past and everyone seems very competent outgoing and friendly. We expect that we will make some very good friends along the way. Even a sea lion jumped into our dinghy to say hello!
That's all for now from the crew of Always Saturday
