Today I started a new blog on Blogspot called "Sewphie the Sea Dog," about all our sewing projects for the boat. Most of them have been done by the Capt., of course. My other blog is "1st Mate" also on Blogspot, and it covers all the rest of my life in Mexico.
I'm blogging here mainly because Blogspot doesn't seem to have a lot of sailors' blogs. Expats, yes, but not sailors.
Tomorrow morning I'll be taking my biggest tote bag to the tianguis (a Mexican swap meet) in Guaymas to get produce for provisions. We sail Saturday, if all goes well. We have no refrigeration this trip, only a Coleman Extreme ice chest (which is supposed to stay colder than an ordinary cooler. We'll see, she said doubtfully. I'm thinking of cutting up certain veggies and fruit and freezing them in square containers, which will be stacked in the cooler, hopefully keeping it colder. I'll throw them into soups, stews and stirfries. I'm also making some muffins for those first-day-out queasy blues.
We will be at sea with no access to land for at least four days on the first leg of the journey.
Conditions look good for sailing Saturday. Flat seas, little wind. We'll be buddy-boating with "Sol Mate" directly down the mainland coast, instead of our usual cross to Baja and then down to La Paz and over again to Mazatlan.
