Day 4
01 May 2015 | 700 miles east of NZ
Scott
Thanks for keeping track of us. Passage weather is fun to look at except when your the little boat getting the big wind and waves from the pretty little picture. Our course has been due east with a one day jog to the ENE to give me a little more space away from the monster to the south. Just after sunset last night a quick front came through bringing the expected southerly wind shift. Wow! how the wind and rain blew in the short 45 minutes. I altered course 50 degrees to the north in the face of 45 Knots from the SSW, with only a poled out jib up we started to FLY at 14.5 knts and held it for an incredible 1/3 of a mile. It was scary but all went well and after front passed I sheeted the jib harder for a blasting beam reach in the 25 knt new breeze. We had taken down the main 12 hours earlier as the west wind built to 30 and it was a blessing it was down. The waves are getting bigger but still behind us and with the wind on the beam it's a little more comfortable. Funny how the word "comfortable" when you are at sea usually means not as horrible as before. Capt. Scott aka surf daddy
