Sailing with Celestial's Tripp

We are a Tripp 47 racing boat turned cruiser that we bought in Maine in 2009. We sailed it through the Panama Canal and up to Seattle then back to Mexico and over to Hawaii in 2012.

Day 11

08 May 2015 | 1,900 miles out of NZ

For the last 36hr we have fighting to go north and not northwest. the wind was a close reach but the heavy winds, squalls, and ridiculous confused seas made it dangerous to point higher. We did just manage due north and that is what I wanted so as to maintain contact with the low coming down in front of us. We are now just on the edge of it and the winds are starting to veer to the south so we can sail 40 degrees true and strait at the Society Islands. to say last night was uncomfortable would be a gross understatement. With waves breaking against Celestial and throwing spray all over the boat from the windward side, the leeward side and the bow. We stayed on course with only our jib but it seemed like it was malevolent wave day and all the cresting creatures were taking pot-shots at us. It was never scary or dangerous, you just pray please dont break anything and when will this insanity end.

Well the sun came out this morning and seas just have a few choice parting remarks as they are transformed into benign billows. I even looks the the convergent zone over Tahiti will be gone by the time we get there.

I don't know if we will stop or how much of a cost and hassle a short term stay there would be but I want more east they are in my way. We may stop somewhere but only if it lines up with our upwind angle for the Sandwich Islands. ----- At 5/8/2015 18:27 (utc) our position was 21°05.47'S 156°10.68'W
