Jam Night at the Yacht Club
19 February 2008 | Luperon Dominican Republic
Capt Chris, calm, sunrise time, beautiful
Once again the "Dragging Anchors" bludgeoned many great tunes last night. This is the second jam night I have attended and it is great fun but somewhat disorganized. Playing with other folks is a great way for me to improve my own playing. Well as my brother tells me as long as the folks your jamming with are better. Most of the tunes we play I don't know, but I just concentrate and watch the others and start to pick up the cord progression. Now last night I brought my blues harp and whaled along on some blues and blue grass tunes. I have such fun.
Quick news flash. I finally uploaded two Youtube clips of the interior of Christa. It is a two part series starting aft and working forward. So now some of you will have a better visual on my life aboard. So enjoy and I would like feed back on the videos. Not sure if people like them, two short or two long, poor quality or what.
I'm now approaching a month in Luperon. I swear I haven't left because I have lost my mojo. Each weather window that has been advertised erodes to where it really is not a weather window, but just a slight slackening of brisk trades. Several boats that I have sailed with have left on these slackening days and have safely arrived in Puerto Rico. So it is possible to make progress in less than ideal conditions. But the vast majority of us in Luperon are not into getting beaten up. When you hear that an Alden 54 got pounded on the trip east you think well a 32 footer really will get punished. One gaggle of French Canadians have been here for the same period of time as I and are of the same opinion. One of the guys on Cat Tails is a Meteorological Professor. I speak with him just about everyday. So I will keep on keeping on here in the Lup and eventually a window of light and variable wind will open and I'll roll.
Speaking of rolling I am heading to Santo Domingo today with a couple and their two kids. It is the capital and a five hour bus ride across the mountains to the south shore. We plan on staying for two days and return on Thursday. I really looking forward to the trip. Pics and commentary to follow of course. Take care.
