The Sprint for 32 North is on
08 May 2015 | Daytona
Ed/ much more seasonal
As all cruisers know, 32 North by June 1, is magic to your insurance company, and we are no different. We need to be North of the 32nd parallel by June , so we are sprinting North in some very busy travel areas. I have never seen the AIS as busy as it was in Ft. Lauderdale. Over 100 active targets within 10 miles. All of them much larger than us.
Since we left Tierra Verde 20 days ago, EJ and I have travelled 582 miles, and had 6 lay days due to weather. Our CYC dock is 763 miles due north.
The ICW has been interesting and challenging up until this point. The boaters from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami are not a courteous as those we had on the rivers and in the keys. Here they are get out of my way, and I will go as fast as I can. I have very limited desire to revisit the ICW around Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. As we approached Daytona, the environment has changed, it is equally busy, but the boaters are more courteous announcing there intentions, giving a slow pass and a wide berth much nicer and safer.
We are packing up some stuff no longer needed on the boat, and EJ is sadly packing to go home to teach at BW. I will loose my Admiral this week, and I will miss her.
I have friends from CYC coming to help me on the next few legs to 32 North. I am looking forward to learning from them, as all have more experience than me. But space is still available before the Admiral returns, let me know if you are interested.
EJ and I are truly looking forward to getting home, and rejoining all our CYC and Cleveland friends. But we are starting to wonder what we will do next, Florida is wonderful in the winter, and Cleveland is great in the summer. We need to figure out how to enjoy both.
See many of you soon, Ed and EJ
