Vacation starts today.

After a few long days, we are on Lake Ontario, soon hopefully the muscles used during the canal transit will recover, and we will forget about the weeds we picked up while anchored in Erie which resulted in cleaning the generator strainer at 0345 at a free dock on the north end of the Welland.
The Welland took 20 hours, we arrived at 0700, and were given 4 different departure times, finally locking in at 1800. The transit took 8 hours, we cleared the last lock and thanked Seaway Welland at 0336. We were very happy to have young spry 72, year old Bob Neff with us as he handled most of the fender change work which was frequent. You do a string of locks in about 4 miles that requires two complete fender resets, or 10 fenders, 50 for each side. I had the helm, and did the pushing off the wall while he and EJ did the lines.
But that is behind us, and we are ready for adventure. Lake Ontario has already shown the differences from Erie, being colder it is a storm destroyer, not a builder. We have watched several strong storms simply die when they hit the lake. The scenery from the Dalhousie Yacht club is beautiful, we are tied on the west wall, near the beach and town. If you travel this way we encourage you to stop here, and get the west wall, it is a much shorter walk to town than from the marina or the main Yacht Club docks.
Fair winds and following seas,
Ed and EJ
