Melody and Craig in front of Casa Roja
My good friend Melody and her husband Craig worked their tails off and built a vacation home a few years back in the East Cape of Baja overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean. They were there last year when we were anchored off for one short night in Frailes Bay just down the road. I knew their house was somewhere in that area, but I didn't realize it was only a few kilometers away. Fortunately for us, their vacation this fall coincided with our stay in La Paz, so we rented a car and hit the road. The drive was absolutely gorgeous, winding us through and around the plush hills and back down through small villages and towns. Her directions were perfect and we love the part at the end where she says "drive a bit further until you hit dirt". Literally! 30 more kilometers down that dirt road & we finally reach their lovely house. The rainy season certainly did a number on the road so renting an SUV was an excellent suggestion!
After the tour and hearing the story of their journey from finding the property to making their dream a reality, we enjoyed the afternoon on the beach and in the water. We continued to catch up and reminisce about old times over dinner and drinks. The next morning we headed into the town of Cabo Pulmo for a fabulous breakfast and with hopes of taking advantage of some of the best snorkeling reefs in Baja. But of course the winds piped up, making the water a bit rough and too murky. So after a quick swim, we parted ways and headed back down the hot and dusty.
Muchas gracias, Craig & Melody, por su hospitalidad. Your house is fabulous & we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves....for some of us maybe a little too much!
