14 days on Endeavor!? Our time with brother/Uncle Ron was a blur! I guess that means we all had a fantastic time! Starting in La Cruz with Tacos on the Street, surfing with the kids in Punta de Mita, Tortas in Busarias, cold beers and cigars in the cockpit, and swimming at the nearby beach.
Then, it was all about going south. We left La Cruz just after 9am on December 6th, heading down to my favorite anchorage on the Riviera. The 24 hour passage was calm and beautiful and we were pleased to find Carrizal empty. The hillsides were plush and the water was 83 degrees & crystal clear. We spent the next two days snorkeling, kayaking, swimming & reading. Ron started his rotation of reading, sunning, and swimming, with a few bears in between.
On December 9th, we continued our journey south to Zihuatanejo. After a frustrating morning in the dark fixing radar issues, we pulled out of Carrizal at 6am and made our way out, around the corner, and through the hectic Port of Manzanillo traffic. From there on out, all we had was smooth sailing and a lot of Skip Jack on the line. No Dorado this trip, but we managed to keep ourselves entertained with watching dolphin, sea turtles, and beautiful sunsets.
We all woke up out of our trance once we had the dramatic rock formations, rugged hillsides, and resort lined beaches of Ixtapa in our sights. Zihuatanejo was just around the corner and It felt pretty exciting reaching a port not yet visited as we didn't make this far south last year.
Zihuatanejo is definitely not the sleepy little fishing village it once was, but they have maintained the charm that makes this place so desirable. Lucky for us, we arrived about a month before the peak of the cruising and tourist season. During Sail Fest in February, there are as many as 80 boats in the bay. Being among the 5 boats anchored here off La Ropa Beach, I think we all prefer this pace, although we still hold out hope for some family boats to join us.
Thank you Ron, for being such a kick in the pants and for being so good to my kids! Bringing you down the coast with us and ending up in Zihuat was perfect. We love ya and can't for your next visit!
