Debbie Adams on Impulsive/Sunny and hot
Our trip south down the Pacific coast was fun. We departed from Seattle on August 14 and nonstop motor-sailed to Newport OR, then Crescent Bay ditching the sudden gale storm we got caught in overnight (eventually seas built to 15 ft - 6 seconds seas, wind to 43 kph, and the boat surfing waves at 14.3 knots at one point in the middle of the night. You can see building seas in the afternoon out of Newport Bay OR - See Video
). Then onto Eureka for 2 days awaiting better weather, and finally to SF arriving Friday August 22 where we parted ways with our 2 wonderful crew members Lani and Phil on the 24th. We learned so much from both of them. Thanks guys! After sight seeing, and meeting friends Wes and Evie the guys went back to sunny Seattle, and we (after a couple days of re-provisioning, rest, and laundry) in cloudy SF went onward to Monterey Bay, Ventura, Long Beach-Alamitos Bay, and then San Diego.
Monterey Bay to Ventura was our first passage alone overnight and around the Cape Horn of the Pacific - Point Conception. It was our big "challenge", but not a problem. We kept 3 hour watches, and slept in the cockpit never far away from each other. As we rounded the point at 6 am the sun rose over the hills to the east, dolphins crossed our bow, and angels were singing or so it seemed.
The rest of the way to SD was easy peasy. We arrived in San Diego Sunday evening August 31 at twilight Labor Day weekend. The harbor entrance was packed with erratic traffic, and it was somewhat challenging finding our marina, and slip.
Greeting us was a welcome friendly smiling Mary from Shilshole E dock waving from the end of our new home A-dock. It is nice to have friends greeting you after a long voyage that's for sure.
The slips here are 14.5 ft wide with concrete pillars and finger docks on both sides, and our boat is 13.5 ft wide. A tight fit, but this was my 3rd time docking this style slip and it went fine. We will not go into the last dock attempt in Ventura where I failed miserably.
We have a never ending list of things to do that will keep us busy until we depart the end of October for Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Will not bore you with details. Hope everyone is well and take care.
