Hola from Cabo, aka Vegas baby. The tourist promos try to pass the town off as the "Mexican (French) Riviera" but its does not come close except perhaps the expense. The town has recovered from the double whammy Hurricanes recently, but some stores are still closed. SAMs club is still closed and about 80% of the mall is undergoing remodeling.
There are new pictures in the gallery so be sure to take a peak.
We had a lovely visit with Morris's sister Sandra and her friends yesterday, then onto shopping to re-provision the boat so we can head north up the Sea of Cortez today. We were anchored out in the harbor for a few days, then moved to the marina for 2 nights to make prep work easier.
Our crew flies out this morning. A big thank you to both of them. We had a great time, and I am pretty sure they did too.
The trip down was great starting with a send off party in San Diego. Yes that is me in the pirate costume. We participated in the Baha Ha Ha 2014 parade along with over 130 other boats. It was not as scary as I anticipated (imagine bumper boats at the fair), so I was happy.
We hit a patch of kelp right off Point Loma so ½ hour into the rally Morris was diving the prop. All was good though. First stop 2 days later was Bahia Tortuga (Turtle Bay). While anchored in the bay Hurricane Vance was stirring things up down south so we hung out an extra day in the lovely bay.
Second stop was Bahia Santa Maria 2 days later, again another lovely bay, and yes we stayed an extra day. We caught up with the rest of the Ha Ha fleet in Cabo with plenty of time for the party on the beach, though we missed the rowdy one at Squid Roe. We are ok with that.
We set off for Bahia los Frailes and the largest hard coral reef on the western Pacific. Only 6 boats can anchor in the bay to the south of the protected Marine Park at Cabo Plumo so fingers crossed we get lucky. We hope to spend a week there diving the reef. It will be fun to kick up the compressor for the first time.
Next stop is Ensenada De Los Muertos for a night or two then onto La Paz. We will likely not be in touch for a couple weeks other than our text updates via SSB radio and our Delorme inReach my new favorite toy. Unlimited texting piggy backed on the Delorme GPS satellite network, with no holes globally.
Well take care and happy thoughts to all.
