Zihuatanejo, Z town, Zihua. Whatever you want to call it, we made it. A total of 340 +/- nm, and a 3 overnight and 3 full day passage. Factor in the time waiting for weather and it took a total of 9 days.
We are here to meet our land friends Bob and Kris who are down here for a big birthday celebration, and to attend Guitar festival 2015.We traveled from Bandaras Bay loosely with our friends on Scoots, and look forward to fun, music, and exploring the area with everyone.
This is about as far south as we will travel this year. Once we have done justice to the town, we will head slowly north back to Nuevo Vallarta stopping along the way at anchorages we passed up getting here. It will likely take us a month or so to get back to Bandaras Bay. We will be leaving the boat at the Marina there and traveling back to the States to catch up with Family and Friends. See you soon!
We had this cute Dove (Eurasian Collared-Dove_) land on the boat lifeline about 6 PM the first night out. He was so tired, and fell asleep almost immediately. We were almost 18 miles from shore at the time, and he came from offshore to the west - likely from one of those 1000 ft long freighters moving up and down the coast. He stayed for about 12 hours sleeping, then departed at dawns early light when we were about 5 miles from shore and the lights of civilization. Checking on him periodically through the night was something to break up the monotony of a blessedly uneventful passage as he was way too cute hankered down and holding on. Perseverance personified.
What we have seen of town so far is quaint, but disturbingly there is quite a bit of litter around. In the bay, on shore, sidewalks, etc. Not sure if it is the presence of so many gringos, but this is not typical for the areas we have been to in Mexico so far. We have seen garbage sure, but not blatant litter. Yet we have only been to shore for a couple hours upon our arrival to check in with the Capitano Puerto and find cold beer. Friggin cold beer they call it here, and they are not kidding. Perhaps it was just me and I WAS cranky from lack of sleep so we will give the town its fair due this week with fresh eyes. Cheers to you, and hosta luego from Zihua.
